Drivers traveling along US 501, most in route to Myrtle Beach, have a new landmark to spot when visiting Marion County. Workers completed a special project, painting the water tower at the Marion County Industrial Park into a beach ball. County officials are adopting a new slogan, “It’s Just Right”, which can be seen written on the tower. Marion County Economic Development Director Rodney Berry unveiled a committee’s plans for the logo and slogan. The project overall will be used in a marketing campaign for local attractinos. Berry said up to $40,000 had been raised along with MarCo Rural Water taking care of the difference.
A celebration of the project was held in the Pee Dee Electric Assembly Room located on 1811 North US 501 Bypass in Marion. The eye catching landmark has already been featured in magazines, TV programs and newspapers across the state. One calendar featured the Beach Ball water tower and named it the second most creative water tower in the country.
